Philadelphia Attractions - Franklin Square

Author: James C
Philadelphia is an incredible town with hundreds of attractions that could keep any tourist busy. One that has recently been renovated and is worth checking out is Franklin Square. Read on and see what there is to do at Franklin Square.

Franklin Square is a 7.5 acre park located in Philly. It was originally laid out in 1682 by William Penn when the city was planned out. It was renamed in honor of Benjamin Franklin in 1825. In 1837 it became a public park and it just recently underwent a complete renovation. So what is there to do at Franklin Square.

If you are into miniature golf, you should stop by Philly Mini Golf located at the park. it is an 18 hole course decorated with historic figures and historic icons. Definitely worth a stop. If you have kids they will love it.

Next head over to one of several story telling benches and learn a little history. You will hear stories about the park and what it has meant to the residents of the area. Learn how the park was used as cattle market and a parade ground and even a burial site.

Lastly you need to check out the historic Franklin Square Fountain. Built in 1838 it is currently undergoing a cosmetic restoration but is still worth a look. The fountain is located in the middle of the park and you can find it by following any one of four herringbone brick trails leading to the center of the park.

When you get done with your tour of the park, take some time to have a picnic in one of the picnic areas. Bring a blanket and buy a lunch from one of the many vendors in the area. To find the park just go to the intersection of 6th and Race street in Philadelphia. It is quite easy to find and I am sure you and your family will have a great time.
