Number of inhabitants hardly crosses the mark of 50,000 and it got its name from a Greek word Larnax, which literally means coffins. The 400 berth marina is crowded with visitors with yachts. The fascinating deep blue water of sea creates a panoramic view to soothe your eyes sitting on the long sandy beaches. Long promenade with lined palm trees along the harbor brings an effortless relaxation to the mind'even a short stroll invigorates you enough to spend more time here. Earlier the city was called kition and it had been the main trade center of Cyprus. Later it deteriorated as an industrial place and was outperformed by few other cities in terms of product manufacturing. However, Larnaca retains its importance by still producing hundreds of private yachts and possessing several oil refineries. It is one of the oldest cities of Cyprus and features a few but impressive archeological heritages.
